Two women standing on a beach. No waves, it’s very calm. They’re hugging. We see them from behind woman 1 wearing a sunhat. From this vantage point, we can see the other woman smiling. Feels like love.

Remember in those old movies where the bankers were the prestigious ones in society that you’d want to be connected with? They were looked at with high esteem and status and well, I wanted that.

How many 12-year-olds do you know that want to work in the bank? Hold on… and actually, do it when they turned 18? Probably not many, right? Well, now you know one — me.

I moved out of my mom’s house on June 26th, the day immediately following my last diploma exam (Math 30 Pure). I was so determined not to be the graduate that still lived with her parents, that all of my things were already packed and mostly moved. All I’d needed to do was load up the suitcase that I’d been living out of for the last week and I was gone.

I hadn’t even started unpacking in my new home yet when I left to apply at every single branch of every single bank in town. This was a city of anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 people (depending on the price of oil at the time) in Northern Alberta, so that’s at least 13 locations (from what I can remember).

I absolutely could have gone online and applied, in fact, this was when many places were trying to go online, but I insisted on meeting every branch…
